Sn5621 English Arts and Crafts chest of drawers in solid oak, having oblong top with moulded edge above two short and two long oak lined and moulded drawers, all fitted with original brass handles, standing on square legs terminating in pad feet. This antique chest of drawers is in home ready condition. c1900

Robinson and Sons was founded by Thomas Robinson, born in 1812.
Robson and Sons were cabinet makers of the highest standards; they were originally based in a small house at 42 Northumberland Street in Newcastle-on-Tyne. Robert Robson started the business in the William IV area of 1835 after serving his apprenticeship as a cabinet maker and upholsterer.
At the age of 24, when he married Ann Lister, he was noted as an organ builder and the son of John Robinson, a woodman. In 1850 he changed his business from organ builder to cabinet maker.
After Robert’s death, his sons opened a large factory where over 200 people were employed.
His two sons followed in his footsteps to continue creating fine quality furniture along with working at hotels, churches to large ocean liners that were being built on the Tyne.
Robson and Sons business carried on for four generations of their family before it was finally taken over by the Maple Group in 1953.
