Description
Sn5417 Fine quality late Victorian open bookcase of break fronted design, having figured mahogany top with satinwood crossbanded and vase inlaid centre, satinwood inlaid frieze depicting vases, harebells and swags and bows all above three open sections fitted with height adjustable shelves and flanked harebells inlaid pilasters, all standing on moulded plinth base. This antique bookcase retains its original finish which has been revived and waxed, all in excellent home ready condition. Bears Edwards and Roberts label. c1890

By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century. They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers working in a variety of styles, both modern and revivalist. Edwards & Roberts specialized in marquetry, inlay and ormolu.
